The 2nd grade students at Pamlico County Primary School were very excited on March 27th to have "Matter Day."  The classes have been learning about the various forms of matter: solids, liquids and gases as well as reversible and irreversible changes.  The 2nd grade teachers and the Technology Facilitator along with the Media Coordinator set up various stations to explore the properties of matter in a hands on fun manner.  Two classes at a time would rotate to each station.  There was an Oobleck and Popcorn station where the students could observe Oobleck (a mixture of cornstarch and water) being mixed under the document camera and projected onto a Promethean board for the whole group to see.  They also observed how a kernel of popcorn can change when heat is applied by watching popcorn pop in a popcorn machine, a Reversible station where pretzels, M & M's , an Irreversible station, and an Activote/Promethean Board station.  These tactile activities helped our students really grasp the material that had been taught and tested them on what they have learned.   Each student had a matter journal and completed an entry after visiting one of the stations.  Please click here to see pictures from this fun day.

Popcorn, trail mix, Kool-Aid and gooey stuff to play with.....what could be better?
