Skip Waters, chief meteorologist for WCTI-12 visited with second grade students on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009. Our second grade students have been learning about weather and the water cycle. Mr. Waters did an excellent and entertaining job explaining many common meteorological terms including: observation, weather vane, weather meter, precipitation and anonometer. He also discussed the many types of clouds and how they are formed. He used a trashcan cloudmaker to make different types of clouds and had a jar of water which visually illustrated what a tornado looks like and how it forms. Students were mesmerized with what he was sharing and how it extended their learning from what they had learned in the classroom. Mr. Waters gave each student an autographed activity book, Channel 12 magnet and pencil.
The 2nd grade teachers presented Mr. Waters with a tie, snowflake candies and a snowman cake made by Troy William's grandmother, Ann Miller. The students presented Mr. Waters with their picture mounted on construction paper which was autographed by each 2nd grader. We would like to thank Mr. Skip Waters for making learning fun!
