 The Pamlico County Board of Education formally thanked the Pamlico County Commissioners for their support with financing the new PCHS Cafeteria, the new Central Office Office Wing and the installation of air conditioning in the Middle School Gymnasium.

Davis Brazelle was recognized for becoming a "2008-2009 All-American Scholar" (Second Team) as part of the Pop Warner Scholars, Inc. Program. The designation of Second Team All-American Scholar, as attested by the program, is the second highest award bestowed upon a Pop Warner Little League Scholar participant to recognize their academic excellence. The title of Second Team All American Scholar applauds the accomplishments of the recepient at an early age, as well as his promise for continued academic achievement and excellence.  By receiving this honor, Davis academically ranks among the top 2% of all Pop Warner participants nationwide.

 Avery Williamson, a sophomore at PCHS was recognized for being selected to attend Governor's School June 14-July 25 in the area of Choral Music.  Avery will attend Governor's School East located on the campus of Meredith College in Raleigh. She is the daughter of Glenn and Jill Williamson of Bayboro.    The Governor's School is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically or intellectually gifted high school students in the nation. The program is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in the performing/visual arts area. Funded annually by the General Assembly of North Carolina, the program is administered by the Public Schools of North Carolina, the State Board of Education, and the Department of Public Instruction through the Exceptional Children Division. A Board of Governors, appointed by the State Board of Education, acts as an advisory body. Avery is the third student from Pamlico County that has been selected this year to attend this prodigious program.  The other two students, Macy Williamson and Mark MacIntyre, have already been recognized by the Board at a previous meeting.

  Four PCHS students, one from each grade level, were recognized for being chosen as this months Character Education students for the area of "Responsibility".  Responsibility may be defined as, "....the quality or condition of being responsible; reliable; obligated; and trustworthy."  

 

                                    9th grade: Eric DeOliveira

"Eric is a student that carries out all duties and performs at levels above all others. He is first in and last out of all work and activities.  He makes no excuses and his behavior and manners are above and beyond a high school student."

                                    10th grade: Roy Stocks

"Roy is one of the most dependable students I have taught. When asked to complete a task you can depend on him to complete the assignment correctly and on time.  Roy is a great assistant to his classmates.  Whenever they have a question or need help with a project he has been quick to offer his assistance."

                                    11th grade: Joshua Hawkins

"Josh's work is always turned in on time and completed to the full extent of which the assignment is required.  He accepts deadlines and completes task when they are due. What is impressive about Josh is that he takes the initiative to ask questions, seek validation, or look for help if an assignment is unclear.  Knowing when you need clarification and having the sense to seek that clarity is an excellent example of a responsible student."

                                    12th grade: Sara Brinson

"Sara has taken a tremendous amount of responsibility to ensure that the 2009 Show Choir performance maintained the quality established by Mrs. Watson over the years. Sara coordinated and organized costumes, assisted in clerical work and staging concepts, as well as choreographed over half the show."

The following students were recognized for placing first in the 1A school division at a Math competition held at East Carolina University:

In Geometry, the following students represented Pamlico County:  Eric DeOliveira, Robin Holde, Allison Hollowell,Katie Lachman, and Dana Meadows.

In Algebra II, the following students represented Pamlico County:  Jonathan Cross, Natalie Evans, Amanda Foster, Madeline Krapf, and Roman Rys.                                   

In the Comprehensive Competition, the following students represented Pamlico County:  Adam Balfour, Ross Cahoon, Tyler Cahoon, Cougar Caroon, Zach Cross, and Xiao Fu Liu.

PCHS Computer Engineering students, Mark MacIntyre and Dillon Hill, were selected upon application and recommendation from their high school teacher, to attend the SITES program at North Carolina Central University.  This was a 12-week program in which they traveled to the Triangle area every weekend  to focus on industry standard certifications.  They were exposed to the rigors of work life using computers and information and internet technology skills to solve business problems. All reports indicate that Mark and Dillon performed at high levels during this program.

 Show Choir/Band competition in Williamsburg - The PCHS Band and Show Choir performed in Williamsburg, VA at the nationally recognized "Fiestaval" competition on April 2-3, 2009.  Both performing groups received "Excellent Ratings" for their performances.  The Show Choir placed 1st in Mixed Chorus and Show Choir for their division. 

Several students in the Show Choir received outstanding Achievement Awards for their individual performances at the Williamsburg competition.  Macy Williamson won "Best Student Accompanist", Sara Brinson won "Best Student Choreographer" and Rodney Kelley won "Best Soloist".  All of the students were fantastic and represented Pamlico County well and they are to be congratulated for their outstanding performances.
