Pamlico County Schools announces new Superintendent

Dr. James P. Coon, retired New York educator, has accepted the position of Superintendent of the Pamlico County School system.  With 33 years of experience as an educator, Dr. Coon brings 28 years of administrative experience, 18 of them as superintendent.  Dr. Coon recently retired from the Union-Endicott School District in New York.

 

"We are very excited to have someone with this experience come to Pamlico County Schools.  We feel confident that we will continue to grow as a school system under Dr. Coon's leadership," states Pamlico County Schools Board Chairman, George Robinson.

 

Dr. Coon brings a wide array of leadership experiences to Pamlico County Schools, such as financial planning, communications, strategic planning, facilities planning, personnel, organization and team building just to name a few.

 

Dr. Coon chose to relocate to eastern North Carolina, where two of his children currently reside and a third plans to move upon completion of her degree.  Dr. Coon plans to work in administration for another 5-10 years before devoting his time to teaching in the field of Educational Leadership.

 

"Given an effective opportunity, all students will succeed in becoming lifetime learners" is the educational philosophy of Dr. Coon.

"Educational Excellence can be achieved by setting higher and higher standards and holding everyone within the system accountable for student achievement."  

 

 Dr. Coon's contract begins January 1, 2009.
